Recommendations for lodging in bologna

We are planning to stay in Bologna for 4 days in June and take a few day trips. I would appreciate suggestions for lodging that are convenient to sites and restaurants as well as train station please.

I stayed very near the train station, not the most attractive location and not one I would recommend to you. The core of the historic district is perhaps a 20-minute walk from the train station. Lodgings about midway between the two would probably be good. Although there is bus service between the train station and the historic center, I always prefer to walk and enjoy the local architecture if it doesn't take too long.

I think you'll really enjoy your time in Bologna. The historic area is rather large, and there are tons of great side-trips possible. I took a walking tour offered by the tourist office and thought is was quite good.

We liked the location of our hotel, Hotel Novecento, right in the historic city center. We could walk everywhere easily and quickly. We parked our car next to the hotel for the duration of our stay. Do not know anything about the train station location.

If you have the budget for it, I had a very nice stay at the Art Hotel Commercianti. The location can't be beat - right in the center, but on a quiet side street. And their breakfast spread is quite impressive.

If it's too expensive, I'd look for other hotels nearby. Note that as a business city with a lot of conventions, Bologna hotel rates can skyrocket when there's a big event.

Between the train station and the center, take a bus or taxi. It's a long walk, and not straightforward. I agree with not staying near the station, particularly with four days.
