Recent Review of Hotel Olivedo in Varenna

Hello! I am very concerned about reviews of the Hotel Olivedo in Varenna regarding overall hospitality and condition of some of the hotel and unmet expectations. We have booked a superior lake front room for May 2016. I have read on TA that often, when booking such a room with another vendor (such as booking.com or hotels.com) that the room is often not what you had planned on. Most of the reviews that I have read on this forum, however, are quite old.

Can anyone who has stayed at this hotel give me an updated review?

I also have emails out to Albergo Milano and Villa Cipressi but have not heard back from them.

If you don't get much response here check the reviews on booking.com. Their reviews are only by people who have actually stayed there. I looked at some of the newest reviews (Nov '15 - Feb '16) and they are very very good. The overall rating for the hotel is very good with almost 3 hundred reviews. I would trust their reviews much more than TA's reviews.

Albergo Milano may be swamped with emails right now, as the website says there is a technical problem with the online booking and asks people to email instead. I would give them a little time before giving up. The location is much nicer than Hotel Olivedo, in my view.

We have stayed at the Hotel Olivedo twice. The rooms are huge. We have a lake view both times. The breakfast is fun overlooking the water. Laura is "stern-faced" as Rick notes in his books, but I have never had any problems. It is one of my favorite places to stay in Italy!
