Reccomendations for Amalfi coast lodgings/eateries in early April

A group of 4 or 5 seniors (not too creaky yet) are planning for a week or so somewhere along the coast. We will be visiting Paestum for a day trip. Also, would like to include a hike or two, perhaps Path of the Gods, if weather permits. Otherwise, we will mainly be relaxing and sightseeing at a slow pace. After reading a bit on the area, either Amalfi town or Salerno seem like good bases. We will rely on public transport-no car. Ferry services (at least Travelmar) will be running. After our time there is done, we will take a fast train to Rome, which we can catch in Salerno, to fly back to the US.
We're looking for a place that can sleep 5 (1 couple, 3 singles), but don't need or want a luxury accommodation.

Any suggestions for apartments and restaurants that time of year?

I can't help you but I'm bumping this up to see if someone else might be able to. That said, have you considered looking at booking.com?

You don't have to book there as you can always head directly to the website, but it's a great place to search for lodgings. You can filter your search requests to allow for apartments, hotels, and the number of people sleeping there and so on.

If you end up in Positano at meal time, we really enjoyed a fish restaurant right on the beach called Le Tre Sorelle.

My go to hotel in the town of Amalfi is Villa Annalara. it’s a small family owned and operated hotel with wonderful rooms and a large terrace overlooking the sea and the town. There are some very good local restaurants in walking distance from the hotel.

(It is, for all practical purposes, impossible to wake up in the AC area and fly out of Rome the same day. This is a very risky idea. Public transit in Italy and Campania especially is not like Germany or the UK.)

I have no idea if April is better than March, but posters here have reported many closures, including restaurants, in March. Salerno is a respectably-sized, non-resort city, so it would have more open, as would Sorrento. However, you can't visit Paestum practically from Sorrento, and I'm not suggesting that you stay there. It's a purpose-built, postwar resort town.

Because daytrips (like Pompeii or Capri) were important to us, we chose Sorrento for its excellent transit connections, and huge inventory of restaurants. We were happy with an eight-hour car and driver to "see the Amalfi Coast." We did not have time to get to Paestum or Salerno. Regarding Salerno, note that the SITA busses require a change in Amalfi to go farther west. Note that Capri is a VERY long, bouncy ferry ride from Salerno. (Have not done that.)

I spent a few days in Salerno during the first half of March 2023. The city wasn't dead. It as also not terribly touristy. I have no idea what it would be like around Easter. It is an excellent base for seeing Paestum.

To clarify- we plan to head back to Rome the day before the flight home. I agree, trying to get from the AC to the Rome airport on the same day is not a good idea.

Thanks to all for the restaurant and hotel suggestions.
