Puglia trip in May

Hi all,
First time in Puglia, early flight into Bari, planning to base :
2 nights in Polignano, and visit nearby places
2 nights Lecce, and visit nearby
2 nights Matera, and visit nearby
arrive early to Bari to explore and spend last night before flight the following morning.
Does the itinerary seem right ? - we'd be able to visit for example Conversano en route to Polignano, and Ostuni en route to Lecce.
Is Matera definitely worth the diversion, where is good to see en route from Lecce?

I'd be very grateful for recommendations to visit near to our planned bases please?
Hotels and restaurants a bonus!
TIA
Charles

We toured Puglia and Basilicata with Road Scholars last fall ... take a look at their itinerary for ideas. Lecce ... 2 nights with one full day is about right. Matera ... a must-see site ... 2 nights with a full day is about right ... really recommend signing up for a guided tour down into the historic town. Bari ... an afternoon and evening is about right. Can't help with Polignano or Ostuni.

We stayed in Monopoli instead of Polignano last year, and I'm so glad we did. Monopoli was one of my favorite stops.

We stayed in Polignano a Mare the whole time and it was a wonderful base. Terrific restaurants. Perfect location. Lovely, charming town. We also liked Lecce.
The only place we didn’t care for was Matera which is not in Puglia. It’s in Basilata.
