Pros cons recommendations for places to stay in Rome. Campo de fiori area

Hi,

Does anyone have a favorite place to stay in the campo de fiori area of Rome?

My son and daughter-in-laws first trip to Rome. Many years ago I stayed in the piazza Farnese square and loved it. I stayed in the convent.

RS book doesn’t offer much in that area.

I'll be the first to suggest Hotel Smeraldo. It's about a 5 minute walk on a pedestrian street to Campo de Fiori. It's a lovely hotel, welcoming staff, sweet rooftop bar for evening relaxation, and very comfortable rooms. I've stayed there several times and love it (although it's gotten more expensive over the years). There are probably several mentions of Hotel Smeraldo on this forum; I suggest putting the name in the forum search bar and see what you think. Is does book up

I also vote for Smeraldo Hotel - great location, comfortable rooms, and very helpful and friendly staff.

as soon as I saw your question I was going to chime in with the Smeraldo where we had a very nice time.

But I see I have been beaten - twice - to the punch. Oh well.

Nice folks, good location between the Campo de' Fiori and Largo Argentina, convenient to the Baccala shop, convenient to a deli right around the corner with excellent take-away food and food supplies, right around the corner from a church with great sounding bells (loved to lie on the bed in late afternoon with windows open and shutters closed and just listen). Good breakfast. Small showers but you can't have everything....

Hi: It would be helpful to know why you're interested in staying in the Campo Dei Fiori area. /if you're looking for a working class neighborhood where the workers also live - sadly, this is no longer the case with gentrification of the central city.

I lived near the Campo during my 3rd year of college studying architecture from 1977-1978. The market was a thriving and vibrant part of the central city. All levels of society shopped there and I really felt like I was part of a great Roman neighborhood. During my last visit in 2019 I could see how the Campo has become a tourist mecca and not representative of that unique Italian vibe. if you seek something more authentic I'd recommend Trastevere or Monti (among others). I still have my memories but sadly it's now a place for the very rich and tourists.

Adding another vote for Smeraldo. I stayed there in Dec. last year and enjoyed the location.

I strongly recommend a hotel in the Argentina district (about 3 minutes from the Pantheon, another 2 minutes to the Trevi Fountain); it's called Argentina Residenza, and is a wonderful place. Directly across the street (out our window) is the ancient site where Julius Caesar was assassinated.

I recently stayed at this convent and it was a comfortable walk to Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon area. About a two minute walk to Largo di Torre Argentina for taxi needs. Affordable and clean.
