Places to stay at Lake Como

Look in mid-lake: Varenna or Menaggio are good. Bellagio if you want something higher end.
You'll want to investigate individual properties, in addition to getting recommendations here.
Don't even think about staying in the town of Como itself, scenery much better in the central/mid-lake area.

We stayed in the city of Como and loved it. Nightly music in the piazza, easy walk from the hotel to the boats that will take you to each area on the lake. Being in the city gave use the opportunities to go to a silk factory and other nearby towns. Bongo Antico Hotel Como. Very quaint, and the prices were great.

Bellagio has a broad range of accommodations at different price points. Mennagio across the lake, Tremezzo, Cadenabbia, Lenno are all nearby with more hotels.
The city of Como has a nice old town area. The scenery, however, is more dramtic at mid lake.

Royal Victoria in Varenna. If your budget allows splurge for a lakefront room.

Another vote for Varenna. It's mid-lake and a hub for the ferries in the area, not to mention that the views are gorgeous. We stayed at Albergo Milano right on the lake, which has a delicious restaurant overlooking the water.

I will be staying at the Michaelangelo B & B in Varenna come May. Any comments on that place?

Our stay at Hotel Villa Ciprissi in Varenna was wonderful! Great staff; spacious room and reasonable price point.

Hotel du Lac in Varenna. Right on the water and balconies with some rooms. Wonderful staff and wonderful breakfast buffet.

We stayed at Albergo Milano in Vareena and loved it.

Another happy customer of the Hotel Villa Cipressi in Varenna. Can walk anywhere in town from there, and the town is located midway of the lake so getting to other places is easy by ferry.

You want to be sleeping where it's convenient to get the ferries or other boat that takes you out in the middle of the lake, at the center of the lake, where you get the post card views. That's why I initially said center of the lake, not town of Como.

We stayed at the Hotel Du Lac in Varenna......great location to boats, restaurants, etc and wonderful dining room in the morning to look out over the water as you enjoyed breakfast.

We enjoyed our stay at Albergo Beretta in Varenna.

Another vote for Hotel du Lac. Stayed there in June 2017. Awesome place. Beautiful location.

@Matt Enjoyed our stay at Michelangelo’s in 2017, beautiful terrace. They provided transportation to & from the train station.

Staying at the Royal Victoria in Varenna was the highlight of our trip to Italy. Pricey but worth every penny!

Hotel La Perla in Tremezzo. A lovely place with an amazing view of Lake Como from their terrace where we had breakfast every morning. It is owned and operated by twin sisters and their husbands - lovely and friendly people. They have a shuttle to take you down to the lakeside so you can catch a boat and they have pre-scheduled pick-up times for a return to their hotel. Breakfast is excellent and abundant.
