We would like to stay in this area to tour the site and be close to the airport. Recommendations please for availability or 2 night stay.

It is a park and as I remember it there is nothing around OA other than residential. We did it as a day trip from Rome.

I hope you'll get a recommendation from someone here for a hotel or B&B, but here's what I'd do if you don't. If your flight leaves very early in the morning, you could stay at the boring and expensive airport Hilton and just walk over to the airport (we've done this twice). Get a taxi to Ostia Antica. We've also stayed twice in the town of Fiumicino at a B&B we like very much, but since it's halfway between the airport and Ostia Antica, you have to take a taxi to both. The third option is to stay in Ostia where there are several nice places according to google --- it's a very short train ride to the Ostia Antica station from the Ostia train stations. Very short walk from the station to the entrance to the ruins.

Nancy, can you tell us more about Fiumicino and the B&B that you stayed in there?
It's on my radar to use a long-ish layover at the airport as a chance to check out Fiumicino the town, when the layover isn't so long that going into Rome would make sense.

You get various access codes and instructive videos to do a self-check-in.
I think there are only 2 or 3 rooms --- they are very nice and quiet. AC and wifi.
There's a very, very well-stocked refrigerator and eating area with lots of snacks and self-serve breakfast stuff. This is handy when you have a 6:00am flight out.
I'd say the neighborhood is more interesting than charming. There are good restaurants near by. Sorry, I don't remember their names. Federica recommended them.

If you are considering Fumiciano look at the Hotel Tibor - i liked it when I stated there some years ago and it’s always gets good reviews on this Forum. About 10 mins from the airport, offers a shuttle. Fumiciano is a fishing port so lots of seafood restaurants close to the hotel.
Booking.com lists a number of B&B’s in the town of Ostia Antica which is about as far from the site as is the train station.
Enjoy the site - it is impressive and well worth spending a day there.
