My wife and I will be arriving La Spezia later in the day early September and wanted to know if the NH Hotel La Spezia would be a good choice to shower, get a bite to eat and rest well before traveling into Cinque Terre the next morning? How far is it from the train station in La Spezia and are there any good restaurants near by?

Are you planning to stay in one of the CT towns? If so, why spend a night in La Spezia? ( or were you not able to find lodging in one of the CT towns?)
google maps shows the NH hotel as being a mile from the train station ( 20 minute walk)

Ronnie, the southernmost of the CT towns (Riomaggiore) is only 7 or 8 minutes by train from La Spezia. Getting to others would take just a few minutes more. As Joe asked, why would you want to stay in La Spezia if you could stay in the C.T. without taking a long journey to do so?
As he wondered, were you unable to find an accommodations at all to suite your dates/budget, as was recommended in an earlier post?

I understand the thought that, by the end of the day, you just don't know if you can take another step. But, just think about how much more time you'd have in CT if you just take the extra 20-30 minutes to get to a CT inn. If you can't get an inn until the following day or if it saves a chunk of money to stay in La Spezia a night, that of course might be something to consider.

While I agree with the other posters about just getting to one of the towns in the Cinque Terre, I'll say that we stayed at a NH hotel in Switzerland and it was fine, like a business person's hotel--clean, helpful front desk, and looking at Google maps, there seem to be restaurants in the area.
