Need Rome restaurant recommendation - moderately priced

I'm searching for a moderately priced restaurant in Rome that will take reservations for 8. We were hoping to go back to one we loved several years ago, however the newer reviews on Trip Advisor were less than appealing. We really like off the beaten path restaurants that serve to the locals & less geared towards over priced touristy places. Thanks in advance.

The following restaurants in Rome are both wonderful:
Armando al Pantheon
La Rosetta

@Suki - I appreciate the recommendations, but unfortunately Armondo al Pantheon doesn't accept reservations for more than 6 & their are 8 of us.

Try Ristorante Terme di Diocleziano, Via del Viminale, 3/A. We ate there twice in May, and enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the service.

Our first encounter with this place was some years ago when our Best of Rome farewell dinner was held there. So I presume they can handle larger groups.

Here are three places that we liked:

Nonna Betta - Via del Portico d’Ottavia, 16. We had lunch there.
Da Enzo - Via Dei Vascellari 29, 00153 - PHO: 39-06-581-2260 This was featured on a TV food show. They only take reservations. I think they can take parties of 8. We had our last supper there. Try their Pepe y Caci. To die for.
Pepe Verde - Viale Gorizia 35 - Our hotel booked the reservation there twice for dinner.

I wasn't aware da Enzo takes reservations. Last time I ate there, it was first come, first served. Worth the wait, but probably not for 8 diners.

Edited to add that the website for da Enzo says "no reservations."

When we were there in May, they were starting to line up at 6:00 for Da Enzo and they did not take reservations.

They have a number of good and reasonable restaurants around the Pantheon. And I understand great restaurants are in Trastevere neighborhood of Rome.

They do have some restaurant tours of Rome available online.

I often will consult the front desk of my hotel for the name of good restaurants close by. Otherwise, I don't make plans ahead.

Thanks All. I'm still looking. I did send a couple of emails to several restaurants asking if they take reservations. If it were just 2 or 4 of us, I wouldn't worry so much, but for 8, it's not fun to roam from place to place just trying to get in.

If you really want to mingle with locals, then go outside touristy areas. Use Google Maps, pick a place with high ratings with most reviews written in Italian.

If you are carnavoires, I recommend "Josephs" outside of the central city but super convienent to the Metro. Magnificent Aged Tuscan Steaks!!

@barkinpark - I totally agree. We love going off the grid to smaller streets, cafe's, etc. However with 8 people, it's a little more complicated to just wander around. Definitely not into the touristy areas! High prices and usually not very good food. Thanks.

This is one of my favorites in Rome and we’ll outside the main tourist area yet close enough that a taxi won’t break the bank. https://www.osteriaquarantaquattro.com/

They take reservations online (click on prenotazioni). It’s been awhile since we were there but it is large enough to accommodate a group of your size.

Hi Terri,

I would highly recommend two places:

La Gatta Mangiona: This is probably the best place in Rome to have authentic Italian Pizza. It's been featured on many TV shows. Some of their great pizzas are Pizza Margherita Della Gatta, Pizza Morollo, and Pizza Radicchio.Comes around to be 40 euros for a two-course meal for two, pretty decently priced.I actually visited them thrice during my trip. The only drawback is that the location is not that great.

I know you are not looking for very fancy places but this one is a must visit Jacopa, its located in Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere (I loved the vibe of the place).Comesz around to €50 for a 5-course tasting menu. There must try is the squid ink fettuccine with cuttlefish and they have some spectacular wines as well.

**I agree with "David" that a great resource is your hotel's front desk. We do that almost everywhere we go, foreign or domestic.

Thanks everyone. I found the one we wanted in Testeverde & I was able get a reservation. We ate there several years ago on a food tour and loved it. I also found another one that was highly recommended on Trip Advisor. If it was just 2 or 4 of us, I'd just wing it like we like to do and wonder around. I've asked the hotel front desk or concierge for recommendations as well. Sometimes we get great recommendations, but have found on occasion that the clerk is friends with restaurant owners and they recommend as a friendship thing. But, anyway...it's all part of the adventures in traveling!

Plus we've had great luck using RS guidebooks in lots of countries!
