Trying to decide on a hotel in our budget of $150-175/Euro/night in the Campo/Navona area that we can walk to the market, sit at cafe's, feel safe at night. I see good reviews for both, but a lot of older posts from up to 10 years ago. Any recent reviews would be welcome.
If you haven't yet, check reviews for all of them on booking.com. I use that site a lot and haven't yet ended up with a bad hotel, unwelcome surprise or other issue we couldn't handle. If you haven't spent a lot of time with online reviews, look carefully at what some folks complain about as some of them expect 5-star services from budget or mid-range hotels. Others may beef about stuff so nit-picky that their reviews can be passed over.
We stayed at Hotel Navona for 5 nights in 2015. It wasn't the most glamorous or spacious hotel we've ever stayed at, but for Rome, it was a decent choice for us. It was well located and the room, though small as most Rome hotel rooms are, had been recently redecorated. The breakfast area was tight, but well stocked, and the front desk staff were great--friendly and helpful with good restaurant recommendations. We walked to, or from, many places from there. We arranged for a taxi twice--to get to an early morning tour of the Vatican, and to get to the airport, and both times the service was prompt and reasonable. I had asked for a quiet room, so we were located towards the back. It was quiet, but WIFI service was spotty. We went to the lobby area to use WIFI reliably.
My reply may be too late for you but a wonderful option is Villa Pinciana near Borghese. Very safe walking at night and near embassies. They have a special rate on their website. We stayed five nights in October 2017 and will stay again October 2019. Breakfast is excellent quality also and included in the rate. Nice rooms and spacious bathrooms.
