Need Accommodation and transportation Help in Lake Como and Venice

Hello,

We are a group of 2 couples travelling the first time to Italy. Our pilgrimage tour will end in Rome the end of October of this year and we want to extend 5 extra days days to visit Lake Como and Venice. We are thinking spending 3 days in Lake Como and the remaining 2 days in Venice. We will be flying back home in Venice. Need your help and recommendation on how to get to Lake Como and Venice from Rome and where to stay on these 5 days. Thank you in advance!!

How many nights, not days, will you have? Remember that your last day will just be getting to the airport, which from Venice, will probably be quite early in the morning. Plus train time from Rome to Varenna is about 4 1/2 hours. And Varenna to Venice is 4 to 5 hours. So a half day lost to train travel on 2 of those days. Given all that, I'd spend all your time in either Lake Como (fly home from Milan), or Venice; but not both. For that time of year, my vote would be Venice, with day trips to nearby towns of interest, like Ravenna or Verona

Considering the time of the year, I'd opt to spend all 5 days in Venice. You 'll not get tired of it, but if you do there are always days trips you can take from there.

My husband and I were in Italy in 2017. We absolutely loved it! We stayed in Venice and Lake Como, using recommendations from RS for both. We were there in September, so I can't speak to the weather you may experience. In Venice we stayed at B&B Corte Compana, which is owned by Riccardo (his family home) and his wife Grace. They are wonderful hosts and so helpful in planning your days in Venice. In Lake Como, we stayed at Albergo Milano. We loved both of them. I'm sure you can read some recent reviews from this forum or online. Have a wonderful time!
