near Montepulciano: Excellent lodging - Agriturismo I Roseti

The only lodging we really missed after our Italian trip, and the only one I am posting a review for on Rick Steves. My spouse and I stayed at nine places over three weeks in Italy. All were very good; however, I Roseti was in its own category above the others. The hosts and facilities well exceeded expectations. Gianni and Maria clearly work hard to provide their guests an exceptional experience.

  • Outstanding lodging. Very, very clean and very private. Much thought went into the interior decoration and the structure's design. Easy-to-use espresso machine with two kinds of coffee. Large bathroom with a spacious shower. Washing machine available. Perfect for a couple, but can accommodate more.
  • Greeted by a plate of fresh fruit from the garden, a bottle of Gianni's own I Roseti wine, and more. Surrounded by the hosts’
fruit and olive trees, and a nice view of Montepulciano and the countryside. One wakes to comforting country sounds.
  • Four minute drive to Montepulciano. (TIP: the pretty Church of San Biagio is three minutes away. One can park there for free and walk eight minutes up into Montepulciano.)
  • There is a middling grocery store (Eurospin Montepulciano) located three minutes away near the Church of San Biagio.
  • Gianni gave us three still-warm eggs from his chickens one evening. We had them for breakfast: beautiful yokes, well-formed
    whites, and a delicious taste.
  • Gianni provided very useful information on restaurants, etc, in the area. He even called his friend, founder of Uccelliera Winery, to arrange our best wine-tasting experience ever.

We simply loved our experience at I Roseti. One day my wife asked Gianni if we could see his boutique wine operation. He looked surprised, but opened his cellar and took us in. There he poured glasses of rosé from metal tanks that we enjoyed. He also showed us his other "children": (re-used from Uccelliera Winery) wooden barrels holding his red wine. Such fun to taste and learn about how he and Maria had moved from Siena to the countryside.

I had done a lot of research before choosing this lodging. I Roseti is listed on Booking.com (with lots of reviews) as well as at the following link: https://agriturismo-i-roseti-it.book.direct/en-us

Note that one will need automobile transportation to reach this housing.
