Mussels in Venice

Does anyone know of a place to get mussels in Venice? I would prefer to go to a place not on the Grand Canal as the prices are much higher there. It doesn't matter the district as we will have a pass to get around. Thank you.

Mary, you might take a look at Osteria Mocenigo, in San Stae. I don't remember if they had mussels, but all the seafood (well, all the food) we had there last year was wonderful. You might be able to find a menu online. The Trip Advisor reviews are all over the place, but we ate there twice, and were delighted with the food, staff, and area.

We had mussels at Osteria Mocenigo, so yes, they do.

I don’t normally care for mussels or clams, but could have had them daily in Venice! Excellent. Clams are tiny and ever so good, so don’t pass them up either. The mussels are smaller than I’m used to seeing and delicious.

We also had them at Osteria Do Spade (a little hard to find, popular and good). Also check at Hostaria Ottoosopra. Yummy.

I want to add that we just happened upon Osteria Mocenigo as we opted to get off the vaporetto at San Stae rather than go round to Ferrovia. It was one of our favorite meals in Venice.

We were staying in a hotel in San Stae, and the Osteria Mocenigo was just a few yards from our hotel. The first time we went, I asked for a table for 2. "Do you have a reservation?" asked the proprietor. "No," I answered and signaled to Stan (he doesn't speak Italian) that we needed to leave. And the proprietor roared "Sit down!" We did, and had a wonderful meal. We did make reservations for another evening, maybe two evenings.
