Montepulciano

Great medieval hilltop town to visit. We stayed two nights at Vicolo dell' Oste, a small, warm, friendly B&B with a very helpful innkeeper who provides continental breakfast across the narrow street in the pedestarain only zone at the Cafe Poliziano, a gorgeous Belle-Epoque establishment with the most delcicous and delicate pastries and coffees/espresso/cappucino and a stunning view from the terrace of the Val d'Orca a hundred feet or more below! WOW! It makes you want to spend the whole day right there! But walk the gorgeous town- steep and long to the ttop at the Piazza Grande, but worth it. Take Rick's Heart of Tuscany Drive and stop for lunch in Pienza, much flatter, then return to Montepulciano for dinner at one of its many fine restaurants, with reservations made by the innkeeper!
