Does anyone have experiences to share of these stays in Venice and Florence?
We do not have experience in Venice or Florence but stayed in a monastery in Rome and it was wonderful. We talked to a couple in Florence who were staying in a monastery there and they loved it. They recommended this website:
You should also consider convents. We stayed in one near the Colesseum-very reasonably priced and well located.
I stayed at the Casa Caburlotto in Venice. It's conveniently located only about 3 blocks south of the Piazzale Roma. It does have a curfew, and if I recall correctly, you actually can't get out until 6:00 a.m. (although I'm guessing you could make special arrangements if you had an early flight (?). They were strict about having guests leave their key with them when going out, which took me a bit of getting used to. All in all, it was an ok, no-frills place to stay.
