Milan Hotel recommendation for next-day 9:45am MXP flight?

Hi - I spend my last night in Italy this week, arriving Milan 2pm by train, and leaving the next morning on a 9:45am flight to the U.S. I'm looking for advice on whether to stay in Milan itself, or at an airport hotel. When should I arrive at MXP for a 9:45am flight? (I've been in Italy 6 weeks). If I stay at an airport hotel, to reduce morning travel time, which hotels do you recommend (and do they have a shuttle to the airport?). Also, if I stay at an airport hotel, what will the easiest/safest way to go into Milan and back after dinner? (and if you recommend staying in Milan, i'd be grateful for hotel recommendations and reco on how best to get to MXP early morning. Any & all advice is welcome, thank you!

leaving the next morning on a 9:45am flight to the U.S

That implies that the prudent thing to do would be at the airport by 645AM.

We stayed here ---

when we had an early flight to the US via London.

Would not hesitate to stay again.

They have a shuttle service.

Perhaps store your bags when you arrive in Milan, do your sight seeing and dinner and then head out to the airport.

When we did this, the van picked us up at the airport and took us to the hotel and when we checked in we made our reservation for the morning trip back to the airport.

If you want to stay in Milan, I would suggest a hotel near Cadorna station. Trains start running at 4:27 am to Malpensa Airport and take 43 minutes. They go every 30 minutes, so the 5:57 am train will get you there by 6:40 am.

For a morning flight from MXP to the US, I like to stay at the Sheraton MXP. It's located in the airport so it's very convenient. Staying in Milan the night before a morning flight makes me a little nervous that something might happen so that I can't get to the airport. If you want to go back to Milan from the airport, I would take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale. The hotel has a restaurant so I usually eat there.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which is offsite and has a shuttle. It's inexpensive and provides a light breakfast, but there is no restaurant (at least the last time I was there) and feels remote even though it's a 5 minute shuttle ride to the airport.

We stayed at the Moxy at the airport in May 2024. The room was clean and modern and the price was extremely reasonable. The free airport shuttle picks you up just across the street from the hotel and drops you at the international terminal. Would definitely stay there again.

This is our go to place. The owner, Manuela will pick you up from the airport (not sure about the train). She will arrange transportation to the airport for you. Under 3 km to MPX. Good, small, family run restaurant across the street. Google B&B La Piccola Corte di Malpensa.

....what will the easiest/safest way to go into Milan and back after dinner? .... None really. The airport is about an hour via train from Milan so you spending a lot time going to and from. There have been some other posting on this question that suggested there are some decent restaurants around the airport.
