Looking for boutique hotel recommendations for Milan and surrounding area. Will be traveling mid to late January. What is the most important to see and do.
It would help if you defined your interests , budget, and travel style. Have a great trip!
Second, read some guidebooks and review some travel DVDs, to help you form the questions you need to ask. Your current question is too board for a specific response. A little focus helps everyone.
In Milan I’ve stayed at Hotel Gran Duca di York a couple of times. I’m not sure if it meets your idea of a boutique hotel but it fairly small and is not part of a chain. The staff is very nice and the breakfast spread is great!! I like it because it’s near the Duomo and Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. It was just under a 30-minute walk from there to the Last Supper.
For myself those are my top sites although your interests might be different from mine. How many days do you have?
You’ll need to get your tickets for the Last Supper directly from the official website. Check to see if your dates are on sale right now.
What drew you to Milan as a location?
We had a one night stay in the Lancaster Hotel in Milan in 2019. The staff was very gracious, and it was in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood area of the city. Easy walk to the tram stations to get to the Duomo and the Navigli districts. It also was a good price! We were there on one of the hottest days they’d had on record, and decided to take an air-conditioned cab back to the train station, rather than drag our bags, which will easily arranged by the hotel staff.
We only had 24 hours in Milan, as we were traveling from Torino en route to Stresa, but one of the things we absolutely wanted to do, and loved, was going to the rooftop of the Duomo. We arranged to be there right when it opened and had a great experience, exploring the “marble forest” as Rick Steves describes it, and then we left as it was getting way too hot to be on the rooftop of anything!😂🥵 The inside of that Duomo was spectacular as well.
The night before, we took a tram that ended up being a nice city tour on our way to the Navigli canal district. That was a beautiful part of the city. We didn’t get to the park, but it heard was lovely, and we did enjoy seeing the Duomo both in late afternoon light and early morning light. What a magnificent church!
