Perhaps the OP wants to stay at a Marriott. Perhaps they have points to use which will save them having to fork out for a locally owned hotel. Perhaps they have loyalty status that provides complimentary breakfast and use of the executive lounge and perhaps they want the security of familiarity and knowing that the hotel is going to be of a decent standard.

I am fortunate to have a son with an abundance of Marriott points that he gifts to us.
The nicest hotel, with exceptional staff, I have ever stayed in was in Milan— Excelsior Hotel Gallia. Not really central but next to the main train station.

The Westin Palace which is a 15 minute walk from Milano Centrale the main train station. Good if you are using Marriott points. On the expensive side if cash. Plenty of public transportation.

Google maps has a feature to select hotels & then select a brand
although not close to the center (or train station) we spent 1 night here. We loved it. The staff could not be nicer & helpful.
