Lucca accomodazione with pool

My family of 10 is traveling to Lucca in June 2023 and I'm looking for places to stay within the walls, with a pool. The kids will need a place to relax and play after a day of seeing the sights in Tuscany.

Do you want a rental home? A hotel? What’s your budget? Have you tried doing any searches on booking sites?

You may have trouble finding anything with a swimming pool inside the walls. I just did a “ map search” for places with pools in Lucca and none were marked inside the walls. This one which is almost touching the walls, but outside, appears to be the closest:

Are you using Lucca as a base for touring Tuscany by car? If so, you would be better off staying outside the walls at a place with parking—- and some trees and greenery around. We stayed 2 nights in Lucca in June 2010 in an apartment within the walls. We found the city streets to be almost unbearably hot during the day. We sought shady areas to walk through but they are scarce. Take a look at Lucca on satellite view and you will see what I mean. There are some areas of green in the eastern portion of the walled city, buy much of that is the botanical garden itself.

If you are willing to stay outside the walls and have cars, there appear to be some lovely options with swimming pools.

The walled city would not offer enough room for a pool. It is a very old city a so if you want a pool look nearby, outside the historic walls. We rented a villa with pool for our whole family including young teens in the Chianti region. The pool was wonderful to have after a day of sightseeing, especially for the kids.
We found a wonderful local rental agent at Chianti dash and dash More dot com.

As above, I did a search for anything inside the walls that offers a pool, and came up with nothing. As Suki said, it would be difficult to accommodate the sort of outdoor space required for one in the centro storico. Lola found one outside of but near the walls, and here is another:

Hotel San Marco:

Thank you all. I did find a hotel right outside the wall of Lucca, Hotel San Marco. It’s been 20 years since we stayed in Lucca for 6 weeks. We will be 6 adults, two teen sisters and two boy cousins.
Any suggestions for other places in Tuscany.

Any suggestions for other places in Tuscany.

That might depend on how you are traveling; by train or by rental car(s). It might also depend on the sorts of attractions your family wishes to see.

Two months ago, our 4-week Tuscany visit started by staying in Castagneto Carducci, prime wine country with beach access at Donoratico or Cecina nearby. There are agriturismos that could likely suit the 10 of you. We stayed in an apartment suited for 4 - 5 if somebody slept on the couch, but there was only a single bathroom, and there was just one additional apartment next door. There’s a fascinating Etruscan archaeological park and museum a bit to the south, as well as ferries to the island of Elba.

Then, after turning in our 1-week rental car and going by train from there, we stayed in Lucca, then extremely steep Cortona, followed by a single night and parts of 2 days in Siena (too short!), and Florence for a final week.

My sense is that in Lucca, the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro will probably look quite different to you than it appeared 20 years ago. It’s kind-of like a bell food court, with mediocre restaurants now. There are phenomenal other places to the west and south, however, still inside the walls.

Siena and Chianti, Pienza and Montepulciano, Cortona

I'd add Volterra and San Gimignano to the list as they're a bit closer to Lucca.

Cinque Terre is nearby on the coast, when we stayed in Lucca, we did a big day trip via train to CT. Made sure to have the front desk help make lunch reservations for us at a restaurant in Vernazza (gotta beat the crowds), we did a late-morning hike Corniglia-Vernazza, had a enjoyable lunch, explored the other towns, then took a late afternoon/early evening train back to Lucca in-time for dinner.

The marble quarries are available to tour in Carrara. If shopping is on the brain, Forte de Marmi is nearby, upscale & trendy beach town, it's an option. Pistoia is half-way towards Florence, known for their chocolate making and a nice collection of good restaurants, this town has become a nice alternative when Florence gets too overwhelmed and pricey.
