Looking for hotel +/or apartment recommendations: Puglia, Matera, Tropea

best wishes for the New Year!

we're planning a trip to Puglia, with a visit to Matera, at the very beginning of May and are hoping to find some remarkable places to stay. there's a good chance we'll be in Tropea for a few days as well, to fly back home from Lamezia Terme airport.

we'll probably have a few different bases, as we prefer to do local daytrips and not spend much time in the car every day, so it's feasible for us to move, say, and hour away for a different experience. we like comfort, a bit of elegance, but not over the top service. we also like a lot of privacy, so B&B's where the owners spend a lot of time with you, or there are lots of people in the breakfast room, are not appealing to us, but a morning delivery of fresh baked good to our room or apartment is a real treat!

thanks in advance!

We had a wonderful experience in Puglia, in Polignano a Mare at Covo dei Saraceni where we spent ten days. We lucked out with a room with sea views.
Breakfast was very good and the staff were kind and friendly.Their restaurant offered excellent dinners. We also dined around the town, wonderful seafood,

We had a very nice and private apartment in Puglia, in a perfect location just a block outside the oldtown area, but they run it as a Bed and Breakfast in the high season, so that won’t work. I will post it anyway for others who might be going in winter, or who would like a BandB arrangement in summer.

Owner Pierluigi lives upstairs but we never saw him. He is, however, very responsive to communication. When rented as the full apartment, it has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, plus living/dining area and kitchen.

We originally booked this lovely apartment (also listed on AirBnB) but the owner had to cancel because planned repairs to the bathroom were not completed in time for our visit. He was so kind, professional, and easy to deal with I would recommend this apartment without reservation, even though we didn’t actually stay there. Since you will have a car be sure and ask him about parking.

thanks to you both for your suggestions, they all look terrific!
in addition, if you have any recommendations for experiences or off-the-beaten path places to visit, would love to hear those as well.

In Lecce, I stayed at the Patria Palace Hotel. It's a former palace that was converted into a hotel. Excellent location. Amazing breakfast.

It's currently closed for renovation but will reopen in March.
