Looking for a hotel near to Rome Termini

My husband and I are in Rome on 4th October for couple of days. Can anyone give advice on decent hotels within the area of the train station. Only looking to pay around $200 .

I've stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen on Via Firenze a number of times including on two Rick Steves tours. Reasonably priced, family run, short walk or cab from Termini.

Be aware Termini area is a sketchy area. Always be alert of yourself and belongings.
I can recommend where I have stayed about 3 blocks from termini and is the better direction, also. ON a quiet street, Hotel,Aberdeen, it is very popular so book soon.

First, I disagree that Termini is a sketchy area. Or, at least, it does not meet my definition of sketchy. It is very commercial with lots of people and activities, restaurants, etc. It is very busy. Never felt threaten or concerned about safety. Over the years we have stayed several times in the area with no problems. Hotel Sonya is our preferred hotel just across from the opera house and a little closer to Termini than Aberdeen. Aberdeen is very nice. And we have also use Hotel Contilla when just passing through Rome. It is a block south of the southside entrance to Termini and across the street from a self-laundry. Both Aberdeen and Sonya have great breakfasts with wife preferring the the lattes at Sonya. Contilla is very so so for breakfast. Sonya is also used by Steves' tour groups.

I also recommend the Aberdeen. We stayed there in 2016 before and after the RS Sicily tour.

My husband and I have stayed at Residenza Cellini twice when visiting Rome. This is a charming boutique hotel that shares the building with another hotel. The rooms are on the 3rd and 5th floors. Room's and bathroom are generous size for Rome hotels. Nice breakfast served. They have a small lift and reception desk. Staff was helpful in recommending restaurants in walking distance. We walked to all the sights (15 to 20 minutes). 7 minute walk to Termini. We felt very safe here. Great location for a couple days!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Rafaello. Easy walk to Termini; surrounded by lots of great little restaurants; hotel is immaculately clean; good sized room and bathroom; friendly and accommodating staff; delicious breakfast with lots of choices. We did not find the area to be "sketchy", hotel location is convenient to metro stations. Will stay there again the next time we are in Rome! http://www.hotelraffaello.it/en/

I second the recommendation of Hotel Raffaelo. Stayed there last year after BOE tour and staying there again this fall after South Italy tour. Good staff, rooms, breakfast and location. Easy walk to Termini. Not only not a sketchy neighborhood, do stop in to Santa Maria Maggiore church a block away.

We ended our Best of Europe 14 day tour at Hotel Selene Rome just before Labor Day 2017. Breakfast was quite good. The room was modern and the bathroom larger than some. Wifi worked and there were electrical outlets on both sides of the bed. Typical Rick Steves tour hotel. We would stay there again. The extra night I booked was 130.68 EUR (I most likely asked for a Rick Steves discount).

It is an easy walk to Termini, and the fast train to FCO or the city buses or the subway. We were able to walk from the hotel to Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon and if we needed to get anywhere else we got on the bus at Termini. We did lots of walking, including at night, and we did not feel uncomfortable (and we're from the burbs not the city).
