Local - not touristy - Restaurants in Assisi and Siena, Italy

We will be spending 2 days in both Assisi and Siena in August, 2018. We want to eat where a local would go to get the best food of the 2 different cities. Lunch/dinner suggestions? Thanks!

Try Osteria Nonna Gina, Pian dei Mantellini, 2, 53100 Siena Been there just once but had a very good meal. The place was full and we were the only tourists. Nice! Reviewers on various websites complain because of "gruff" service. If you want to be fawned over for a big tip and asked a hundred times if everything is OK and "are you still working on that?", then go somewhere else. Nonnas is the real deal. Closed Sundays.

We ate here Ristorante Degli Orti in Assissi several years ago and found it quite good. Set menus at good prices - nothing spectacular but the place had a good local feel and lots of local ingredients were used.

It is just below the St. Anthony's Guest House, run by the American Franciscans Sisters of Atonement.

You might want to post to the Italy forum and the restaurant forum for more feedback.

Thank you Joni. I just joined this Rick Steves' site and did not know where the best place to post would be.

Great affordable casual dining at Dolceforte and Antica Trattoria Papei in Siena. Assisi- La Locanda del Cardinale- Dining on a glass floor above Roman ruins- maybe for tourists, but unforgettable.

We love chef Pino and ristorante tar-tufo. Cannot go wrong. Just make rez on line. Amazing experience Also, da div is wonderful

Assisi - Trattoria Erminio. We saw Italians in here. Small, cozy place. Great food. Grilled meats from the fire. A bit off the beaten path.
