Has anyone on the Best of Italy 17 day tour stayed in Lecco near Lake Como. If so, would love to hear from you.
Not sure that I can answer regarding the connection between the Best of Italy tour and staying in a hotel in Lecco. My tour was in 2016 and it began in Varenna. But that has changed. However, less than two years ago I stayed at the NH Lecco Pontevecchio which is located near the water and one of the bridges that crosses the waterway connecting Lake Como with Lake Garlate. It was an excellent hotel with a very nice room overlooking the water, a view of the bridges and also a “park” or walkway along the water’s edge. Breakfast was excellent. The neighborhood was quite welcoming. It was an easy walk to downtown, the beach, and even crossing the bridge into the neighboring town. We took a boat from Lecco to Varenna, Bellagio, and other points on the lake. A train is also available. I booked using the hotel’s official website. Hope this helps.
Hello. I was on the Best of Italy 17 day tour this May; 2025. Our hotel in Lecco was the HLL Hotel Lungolago Lecco. This hotel was far below the standards of what I expected. (This was my first Rick Steve's tour). The reviews of folks on my tour regarding the hotel was varied. It seems some rooms had been updated a little. Some were ok with it, but many of us were quite frankly disgusted. The lobby was shabby, front desk person a grump, the carpeted stairs going up to the rooms were filthy. My room was bad. Ripped and filthy carpet, broken furniture, peeling paint on the walls. The breakfast was marginal. This was by far the worst place we stayed on the tour. I don't know who scouted this place for Rick Steve's? Far below the standards of every other hotel on the tour. I understand this is the first year the tours are not staying in Varenna and they are still scouting where else to stay? You will not find Lecco in Rick's tour book. The town was ok. A nice boardwalk along the water, good restaurants. Not touristy at all. We took a short train ride into Varenna to catch the ferries to tour the lake. The tour was fantastic. You will love it.
