Late lunch in Milan around 4:00pm

Hi All!

I am looking for a classic Milanese lunch in Milan while visiting on a Friday from 3:30 - 6:30. It seems that almost all restaurants that I was interested in are closed during that time. Please send your recommendations for the best options for this foodie! Thank you!!

Part of the problem is that you are bumping up against traditional restaurants hours in Milan and much of Italy. Lunch typically shuts down around 3 pm and don't open for the evening till 7, 7.30,, or even later. Some of the hotel restaurants will stay open the entire time but most do not. Is there any reason you locked into your time? This is a case where have to go with the local flow and that doesn't include the early bird special for dinner.

I’ve been in a similar situation with afternoon and even obligations and no good time, according to local customs, for a meal. I’d think outside the box and stroll through one of Milan’s apertivo neighborhoods looking for a drink and interesting bar snacks that can make a meal. A few years ago we did this in two different neighborhoods, Corso Como and Navagli. Some places didn’t open until 6pm but others opened a little earlier. If you stroll up Corso Garibaldi towards Corso Como you will find a giant foodie area with restaurants in the 4 story Eataly at Porta Garibaldi.
