Hi there! My fiance and I are spending about 4 days of our Italy honeymoon this October in Sorrento. I am looking at La Tonnarella Hotel on Via Capo. They seem to have reasonable rates on superior rooms (w/ sea view and possibly a balcony) at $216-230/night. Has anyone stayed at this property? Was it in walking distance (within 10-15 min) of the Sorrento city center? We will likely be dependent on taxi or bike while in Sorrento. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Not been at the hotel you mention, but for a sea view and balcony, Il Nido Hotel ( http://ilnido.it/) is where we have been and the view is fabulous. Breakfast on the veranda with a breakfast buffet that is in our experience unsurpassed, make this easy to recommend. ( Random October dates shows rooms at ~$145 ( 116 euro)
They do have a free bus to run you to/from town
We stayed at La Tonnarella in 2007 and loved it. Yes it is walking distance to the city center. The walk back is a little up hill though. They called the room we stayed in a double room with sea view terrace. The terrace was about 250 sq ft with a view of Mt. Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. They had lounge chairs and a table on the terrace and that is where we spent the morning and nights at. The rooms were huge.
We stayed early April 2009. For sure as others described its views & access to town, wonderful & easy.
Superior rooms are clean, spacious. Sumptuous caught that day fish deboned tableside evening meal.
Bus stop just across street from driveway entrance. As a guest you have access to Tonnarella's spiaggia/ beach, via elevator. Fun to explore. We swam. Water warm early April, compared to NH beaches.
A cool place to visit is Fiordo Furore. The lower part of Furore is a fishing village situated in a gorge w. a small bar & eating establishment open seasonally run by Luigi. In April 2016 one could only access the
village via kayak (which we did via Amalfi) as the steps from the main road were cordoned off due to recent winter storm damage.
If you are looking for any alternatives, we stayed at Hotel Bristol in Sorrento last March for 4 nights. It was outstanding. Also, on Via Capo, the Bristol was about a 10-15-minute walk downhill into the center of town. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were spotless, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. It was very highly rated on booking.com and trip advisor, and we concur. We enjoyed a glass of wine and some snacks on our balcony each afternoon (there are lots of places to buy wine in town), relaxing after a day of running around and enjoying the view before eventually heading to dinner. Of course, the return walk was uphill, but not a killer. The Superior Room with Balcony and Sea View, including breakfast, was 170 Euros/night in late March. You really don't need a taxi, but a bike might be fun. However, we walked everywhere. Regardless of which hotel you decide on, if it is on Via Capo, book a room with a balcony and view of the Bay of Naples - it is absolutely spectacular, with Vesuvius in the distance.
