Going next year and wondering where to stay for 4-5 days near Rome. I'm hoping somewhere comparable to Fiesole-Florence.

I'll ask the same as above. It's generally not a great idea to sightsee the Eternal City daily from locations outside of it.

Fiesole is only 5K from Florence, which is a small town. The only places near Rome of any interest to stay might be Ostia on the coast, or one of the hill towns like Frascati, 20K from Rome. Public transport to either of these places takes about an hour & neither of them equals the beauty or views of Fiesole.
