Italy hotel recommendations

I'm looking for hotel recommendations for Venice, Florence and Rome. I'm traveling with 17 YO son who has never been to Europe before. We are big walkers.

You have put your post in the area for reviews. Move it to the first section, Destination Q&A, tag Italy. You will receive more responses. Plus, include a price point you are comfortable with to help receive some answers to your very broad question.

The Rick Steves Italy book will have several recommendations in each city. Are you wanting to search out hotels other than what’s in the book?

My family went to Italy this summer. We stayed at IQRoma (hotel) in Rome, First of Florence (apartment) in Florence and Casa Beseggio (B & B) in Venice. I would highly recommend each of these places and would stay in each of them again. They are all easy walking distance to many sites and fairly near to the train stations. We toured Italy by train. Casa Beseggio (Venice) is in an old convent and there is no elevator if that is necessary for you. You get a lovely breakfast on their terrrace each morning and it is very close to Row Venice if you choose to do that. Venice is defintely a walking city. First of Florence is right near the Duomo. We did take taxis occasionally in Florence and Rome to get around - and also did a lot of walking in those 2 cities! IQRoma has a very good restaurant & washers and dryers you can use. IQRoma and First of Florence do have elevators. Hope you have a great trip.

I also wanted to add - that all 3 of these hotel recommendations had air conditioning too! If you are in Italy in summer I HIGHLY recommend hotels with air conditioning!!

Budgets are always nice.

Rome _ Charme & Chic B&B - Wonderful hosts, big rooms, AC, wonderful breakfast included, heart of shopping and minutes from Spanish Steps, etc. Restaurants galore. Also offers Netflix in English. Your son will appreciate this, especially if you have rainy weather, or he just wants a break from it all. It's like having a private house. Big door on side alley of main shopping area. Your son will appreciate the variety of shops, etc. Walk to Spanish Steps, the fountains, etc. Great reviews.

If you are looking for clean and cheap, Hotel Assisi around the corner from the main train station - Termini. Easy walk. Cold AC, awesome breakfast, plain rooms but roomy. Not fancy at all, the lobby is nice, and an awesome restaurant next door. Easy to get to the underground and around from Termini. Been there several times as well -

Florence - 7 Florence- directly across the street from the train station, next to the McDonalds - clean, nice rooms, AC, breakfast, and easy to get to everything. Can't beat location. Very nice place and extremely reasonable. If arriving by train, can't beat the location. Minutes walk from Duomo and shopping and restaurants. Florence is so walkable.

Venice - Antiche Figure (across the bridge from the train station on the Grand Canal - nice, clean, wonderful staff, easy walking to everything. A little pricier, but nice location - walk to train and easy walk to bus for airport.

*Hotel Abbazia* - not directly on the canals, but it's an old monastery, lovely grounds, and right in the middle of shops and restaurants. Canal couple blocks away.
