We have just spent several days here in the Il Grano room at Il Casalino. It could use some updating, but for the cost, I can’t complain. Situated in a farmhouse location within 30 minute walking distance (or 5 minute drive) to Pienza, it looks out over views of the surrounding countryside. We are here in mid-September and the fields were plowed, but I can imagine how much better the views would be in Spring and Summer with the rolling fields of wheat. Even now the views are great.
Our contact was Marco. He lives off premises, so be sure to contact him in advance to arrange a meeting time. We found him friendly and helpful. He speaks English and made reservations for us one evening at a great little restaurant in a nearby hilltown. WiFi is spotty in our room but always worked on the portico outside our room. The kitchen is basic but functional with only the minimum of utensils met. One knife, one frying pan, etc. Small mini fridge, microwave and gas cooktop with four burners. The AC works well also.
We love the location near Pienza since it's in the heart of the Val D' Orcia. All the quaint hilltowns are only a 15-30 minute drive away so we can do wine tasting during the day and make it back early enough for a gelato in Pienza then a relaxing late afternoon on the patio before dinner.
Thanks for this recommendation. I've been looking for places in that area, and this looks like a good one to check out! (I can deal with a bit outdated as long as it's clean and if it helps with the price!)
