I have spent this morning researching hotels in the center of Rome. My companions wish to be close to the Termini AND the sites AND the Vatican without spending $500-$1000 a night. We also are wondering how to determine if a room actually includes three beds or has a sofa sleeper or rollaway bed. Any suggestions how to research this?
Do a monastery/convent stay. My wife a d I love them. 3 beds no problem. Way less than $500! www.monasterystays.com
Hi, the Hotel Aberdeen (the Rick Steves tours used this hotel for Best of Rome in years past--not sure if they still do) is fairly close to Termini. Walkable if you're in decent shape. They have triple rooms (3 single beds). From there you can walk to many sights or are within bus/subway/taxi access to the Vatican, Colosseum, etc.
Courtyard-facing or rooms away from the street are quieter. https://www.hotelaberdeen.it/
Hotel Hiberia has a triple room with a double bed and single bed.
We, a family of 3 adults, stayed at Hotel Diplomatic. https://hoteldiplomatic.it/en/index.html
In 2022, we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Globus on Viale Ippocrate and we had 5 people in one room (2 people in 2 queen beds and one on a pull out sofa). We walked with luggage, from the train station. We took the tram, which was one block away, to the Vatican - however, it was a circuitous route but no changes required, and we took the bus to the Coliseum We became Best Western “members” for free and I think it was around 200 euro per night; however, that was 4 years ago… Rooms had air con, there was an elevator for when we were toting luggage and an American style continental breakfast was included. When it wasn’t crowded we took the bus (310 I think) to and from Termini, but we also walked it as referenced above…
