Hotels in Rome Historic center

I'm traveling to Rome in April, 2017 and I'm looking for a decent hotel in the areas of Pantheon/Navona or Spanish Steps... I prefer a hotel that provides 24 hrs check-in, not a BB.... so far I found some, but the prices are over $300 per night.... (a little bit higher for my budget).... Does anyone has recommendations for a good hotel with a more reasonable price ?

I am not sure of the pricing, but we stayed at The Hotel Minerve in September which is right behind the Pantheon. It's a full service hotel, so it may be pricier than you want. You can walk to ancient sites, Trastevere, Spanish Steps, and even the Vatican. Good luck!

My very favorite hotel in all of Rome is Hotel Navona. Right next to the Palazzo Madama, across the street from piazza Navona, and a few blocks from the Pantheon. It's wonderful, clean, comfortable, and the people could not be nicer. :o)

We were in Rome last April for the first time. We stayed at the Hotel due Torri for the week. Typical small rooms but very clean, friendly staff and good breakfast with quiet location near Piazza Navona. We would stay there again.

We had a very nice brief stay at Albergo Cesari two years ago, located about a five to ten minute walk from the Pantheon one direction and Trevi Fountain the other direction. We liked the hotel well enough that we've chosen to stay there again on our upcoming visit to Rome. The hotel had friendly and helpful staff. Our room had older furnishings but was very clean and comfortable. A wonderful breakfast buffet is served on the rooftop terrace, included in the room rate. I just went onto the hotel's website and chose a random date in April of 2017 and found that for that particular night, rooms start at 189 Euro.

Not sure what their rates will be next April, but we have stayed at Hotel Fontanella Borghese many times and have always been pleased. While it is not "luxury", it is very nice and the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can walk to Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Nuvona, even Vatican city. They also have a sister hotel closer to the Pantheon called Hotel Due Torri. We always send an email directly with our request for a booking and we get an answer back in 24 hours or less. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as rooms overlooking the side street can get noisy. The web site is www.fontanellaborghese.com.

The big issue is that if you want to stay in the high tourists area, then you have to pay the price. We tend to stay in the Termini are - Aberdeen, Sonya - but it is on the edge of the center. We like it for its convenience to transit and local restaurants but it does require a little more walking. But the prices are much better - generally less than 200 E per night and depending on time of year often right at 100E.

We stayed five nights last month in a monastery in the Trastevere neighborhood. It was great.....clean, full service front desk, full breakfast, air conditioned, full housekeeping service and in a wonderful, historic neighborhood. We walked everywhere except to the Borghese where we took a bus. The rate was less than 130 euros per night. The website is: http://www.sfromana.it/en/
There is also a train station in that neighborhood that will take you directly to and from the airport without having to go to the main termini.

If you would consider the Trastevere, the Hotel San Francesco should have nice rooms for less than $300 per night. We walked to all the main tourist sights (did not visit Villa Borghese) and loved the Trastevere area.

I just got back from Italy and stayed at "95 Rooms in Rome" which is in the Monti neighborhood near Cavour metro station. There are also good bus lines that run up Nazionale, that I wish I had researched in advance but it was a very spur of the moment trip. One benefit of staying in the general area of Termini is that lots of busses go there. It's not Centro Storico, but at $90 for a single it was a real bargain. Monti feels like a real neighborhood not a tourist area. Walkable to the Colliseum and Trevi fountain. I walked to the steps and Piazza Navona too but that was more of a stretch.

We recently returned from a stay in Rome at Hotel Piazza Navona, only a few years old. Perfect location on a quiet side street wihin a short walk to Piazza Navona or the Pantheon. Modern design style hotel, outstanding and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent beds, nice shower. There is a rooftop bar with appetizers served gratis , a nice setting. However, rooms on fifth floor may hear noise from above so check out room location is regard to the rooftop. There is also a nice bar off the lobby. The included breakfast includes multiple hot and cold dishes with various homemade treats. This is definitly where we'll stay again on our next visit to Rome. We paid under $300, but check their webpage for specials.

PS-A big Whoops to above post! Correct name is Palazzo Navona Hotel . Three weeks of changing hotels and their names become scrambled! Loved this place. This should not be confused Hotel Navona which a poster recommended above and is adjacent on a side street.

We also stayed at the Albergo Cesari a few years ago and thought the central location was perfect. We enjoyed being able to walk just a few minutes to the Pantheon at night, and we also enjoyed the rooftop in the evening to relax & enjoy a beverage.

We'll be in Rome a month before you and for 6 nights decided to rent a 'residenza' overlooking the Campo de' Fiori piazza, which is owned by one of the hotels. Yes, it's pretty much a small studio apartment with a bathroom. It's also less than 100 Euro a night and has daily maid service as well. Second floor.

We stayed in the same area seven years ago on our first trip to Italy and paid around $300/night, but had no refrigerator so we couldn't take advantage of the daily market and shops. And the Euro was 1.43 : 1 at that time.

We too stayed at the Palazzo Navona last Feb. it was just for our last night but it was a nice place with a good breakfast. I liked its location on the side street with easy walks to Pantheon Trastevere etc. Great roof top terrace with bar. And great views.
But they put us next to some stairs and the lift. The floors are stone so people walking by could be heard through the wall. Otherwise if you got a better room location it's a nice, newer hotel. Great coffee shop around the corner too.

We are staying at a different hotel in May on our next trip. Right next to the Pantheon.
