Hotels in Ortisei

Hello,
I’m in the middle of booking our trip to Italy and am down to our stay in the Dolomites. We want to stay 2 nights in Ortisei and can’t decide between a couple hotels. The Hotel Grones is available for our stay and seems to be highly recommended on here, but I’m not sure I want half board. The Alder is also available which looks nice. I’ve also considered saving money and staying at the B&B Villa Angelino but wish it had its own hot tub. We also toyed around with the idea of the Hotel Gardena Gronderhoff, which looks amazing but I’m not sure if this is the place to splurge since we plan to spend the days hiking. I also considered staying clear up at the Passo Sella resort for the views but wasn’t sure if staying so far from the lifts in Ortisei was a good idea for our short stay before we move on. Does anyone have a hotel they prefer for that area? Thank you! These forums have helped so much.

We liked Hotel Maria right in the center of town - we also weren't sure that we wanted the half board but it was a nice option - especially after a day of hiking - no question about where to go for dinner. We bought a lift pass for access to some of the higher up hiking trails. That was fun!

We loved Hotel Grones and thought the food was amazing. It was the first and only time we ever got half board, and we were so glad we did. After long days of hiking, it was so relaxing to eat in the hotel. We had the same table every night, and the service was super friendly. The food was some of the best food we have ever eaten anywhere. I would not be put off by the half board, in fact I would urge you to go for it!

I second everything Carol, the poster above, said about Hotel Grones. We have traveled a lot and Hotel Grones is one of our very favorite hotels. We were concerned about doing our first half board but with their fabulous food we were so glad we did. It is family owned and run. Great location. We left our car in their garage during our stay and walked to all the mountain lifts. We only stayed three nights and wished we had stayed longer.

Thank you everyone! I think I will book Grones. The book process has been very different so far, all through email from the website and to book they require a bank wire or my credit card information, want to make sure I am actually booking the hotel and not accidentally getting scammed by maybe using the wrong website. Is that how is was for everyone else booking?

Yes, the process you describe sounds like what we had to do. It was so wonderful there and I hope you have the same experience that we had!
