Last September I spent 2 nights at the Metropole. We had a top floor room with a small balcony with a wonderful view of the lake. The location is ideal, a couple of minute walk from both the car and passenger ferry docks. Also, the restaurant although pricey was outstanding. Highly recommended.

If you are on a limited budget, you may want to check the Hotel Suisse. It is a quirky B&B with limitations, but a great location and view if you get a lakeview room. We stayed there because it was the only hotel open when we went off-season in March, and we were the only guests, but it served our purposes as we were on the go all day. You must walk into the ground floor restaurant to go to the check-in desk, then climb two small flights of stairs to get to the room; no elevator. Our en-suite bathroom was basic and dated, but the room was sizeable, and we had a small balcony with a magnificent view. A continental breakfast was included, which was comprised of delicious croissants from the pastry shop down the street, and hunks of ham which they bagged for us to take on our day trip to Lugano. The food at the restaurant, where we ate dinner each night, was delicious - best osso bucco I ever had. We paid 110€/night for the double room.
