Hi, it will be my our first trip to Venice, I would like to stay at a hotel that would have a view from my room of the Grand Canal that is a is around 200-250, cheaper if possible. I would like to be close to everything exciting happening in Venice. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you
When are you going? That will affect the lodging prices.
Hotels with rooms overlooking the Grand Canal tend to be among the higher -priced ones in Venice. The few places I am familiar with (due to friends or family staying there) are over 350 euros a night at high season for a double room with canal view.
Perhaps people here will know of other, less expensive places. Or you could go on Google maps satellite view and look for canal-front hotels (marked on the maps with a symbol of a ged).
Oops I forgot the dates sometime between 9/6 and 9/26
You probably want to arrive after September 9, when the Venice Film Festival is over. Like many festivals, that will drive prices up.
I would not overestimate the appeal of close to everything exciting - most of us want to get away from the tourist crowds and seek the quiet, charming, romantic backways. I don't know of anything on the Grand Canal, but try La Calcina on the Giudecca Canal for a room with a view. I stayed there a few years ago, before they hiked their prices, and loved it. It's a historic building, so no elevators. It's a very short walk to the vaporetto which will take you to all the "happening" places.
Should have mentioned - the whole of Venice is small. You can walk the length of it from end to end in an hour (if you don't get lost and turned around).
Try the Hotel Galleria. It is right by the Accademia Bridge and has rooms with Grand Canal views. Rooms are around 250 euros. We have stayed there before and will be there again in Sept. Some of the rooms are quite small but the location is great. They serve breakfast in your room. It is mentioned in the Rick Steves guide. Enjoy your trip.
You realize that canals serve as Venice’s roads and streets, highways? We would never opt to stay on the Grand Canal again and after being kept awake all night there in a five star hotel.
I agree, Hotel Calcina is a great choice.
Hotel Calcination is nice but it is on the Giudecca Canal, not the Grand Canal. You will have cruise ships going past your window in the morning and evening if you face the canal.
Just checking, the Hotel Antiche Figura, across the Grand Canal from the train station is advertising a Deluxe double room with a Grand Canal view for 1060 EUR total for 3 nights mid-week in September. It can be cancelled, and if you pay now nonrefundable, a 50 EUR discount. That is the kind of price level you are looking at for hotels with Grand Canal Views. If that is too steep for you, lower your sights. There are plenty of nice hotels in Venice for a lot less. You are asking for the most desirable rooms in Venice in prime season at a bargain price. Probably not going to happen unless you up your budget.
Thank you Everyone for you input and great ideas. @ Rosemary we should meet up if your there between 9/9 and 9/12😃
We will be in Venice (our first time there) from 9\18 through 9/21. We opted to rent an apt from AirBnB in the Canneregio district. We debated on someplace closer to San Marco but, as others have stated, the island is small enough to walk in a short period of time and it can also be loud.
Besides, staying where we have to walk further gives us a chance to find out if the way places we may not find otherwise.
Have fun! Maybe we'll see you there!lol
