I stayed there some years ago with a Rick Steves tour. Hoping it is still nice. Does anyone have current experience and could comment?
Hello burnettdn. I stayed at the Hotel Serenissima with a Rick Steve's tour in May, 2025. I arrived early and spent 3 days prior to the tour there as well. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I had a small single room. It was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a very good spread with a wide variety of choices. Staff at breakfast was very attentive. The only issue that many guests had was the warm rooms. It was too early for the AC to be available and many of us opened windows in the evening to cool the room down, only to wake up in the morning looking like we had the measles from very large mosquito bites. It took over a week for them to go away. Other than that experience, it was just fine. As a reminder; this hotel does not have an elevator and there are 4 flights of stairs if you are assigned to the top floor.
Thanks Mary for your comments. I'm glad to know it's still nice. We will be there mid April next year so hope it won't be too hot yet. I was aware that A/C won't be on yet but would not have thought of mosquitoes so thanks for that tip. Were mosquitoes a problem during the day? I will definitely ask for a first floor room, lol. When I stayed there some years ago, we had a top floor room....but I was much younger then so it wasn't an issue!
We experienced very assertive mosquitos in Venice in the past few years - mostly noticeable from twilight onward. I'd definitely bring bug spray or Off towelettes (those work really well for me.)
Hi KC. Am hoping mosquitoes won't be an issue in April but I think we will bring the OFF towelettes anyway. Thanks for your comment.
The mosquito's were primarily at night. No issues that I recall during the day. I heard (after the fact) that the hotel had something you could ask for to plug into the outlets that would repel the mosquito's. I don't know how effective they would be? I'd just keep the windows shut for sure! One woman on my tour had bites all over her face and a few even got infected. They were out in force!
The mosquitos were a problem when we were there one April. The buggers breed in the canals. Good luck!
