Hotel recommendations Venice,lakes Verenna area

Looking for suggestions for a hotel in Venice and also Varenna Lakes area. We chose Verenna because it looks like it is an easy train trip from Venice. We also need to easily get to the Milan airport, but we are thinking about taking a taxi so train connection is not as important in Verenna to Milan. Hoping to not spend more then $150 a night. Suggestion please! We are going to be there in October 2015

If you're looking for great connections to the Milan airport from the lakes area, check out Stresa. It looks like you would save an hour arriving there from Venice, and also it's a quicker connection to the Milan airport.

We loved our stay in Stresa (have been to Varenna, also) and would love to return again. Stresa has the elegant history, and I loved our morning at Isola Bella & Isola Pescatori.

We took the train to/from Stresa and stayed at Hotel Boston (odd name!) which was handy to the train station and main promenade. It's running at $100 for June; we paid extra to have a balcony room with a view of the water. (includes breakfast)

If you could manage $169-$171 a night, you would love the very centrally located (5 minute walk to St. Mark's) Hotel Campiello in Venice. In October you can get it for $169 from Orbitz.com and $171 from Expedia.com and Hotels.com. They also serve a great breakfast.

In Verenna, there is the Hotel Olivedo which in October is $139 from Booking.com and Priceline.com and $167 from Travelocity.com and Expedia.com . It is a lovely place.

We enjoyed staying at the Albergo Milano in Varenna. Our room had a balcony overlooking the lake--beautiful view! It takes five minutes to walk to the train station. The ride to Milano Central took an hour and a quarter, with five stops. This hotel was more than $150 per night but worth the splurge.

I have stayed at the Hotel Olivido in Varenna and used the Villa instead of the Hotel, take a look at it,it has a balcony and living room. You can watch the ferry boats come and go as the marina is right in front of the Hotel and Villa. The dinners are very good at the Hotel
