Hotel recommendations near Fiumicino airport ...Rome

My husband and I will be flying in and out of Rome, on our way to an RS tour of Sicily trip. Looking for suggestions on good hotels/b&b that are in decent area...decent prices...restaurant options.

We always have stayed at the Hilton FCO. Adjacent to terminal, walk or take their shuttle. Has dining options.

I am staying for one night at Hotel Contilia, a couple blocks from the Termini station which is an easy 30 minute train ride to the airport. It is well priced and gets very good reviews. There are people on the forum that have also had good experiences there.

What are the times of your flights?

The Rome Airport Hilton is right on airport property, about a 10 minute walk from the terminals. This is easy but not cheap. The hotel has a free shuttle to Rome every two hours. Here's my review from 2014: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy-reviews/rome-accommodation-rome-airport-hilton

Other "airport hotels" (including the Hilton Garden Inn) require a shuttle.

If you're not arriving very late or leaving very early, it can be just as easy to stay in Rome. A taxi between the airport and the central area of Rome is a fixed rate of €48. If you have to catch an early flight, the ride early in the morning to the airport takes about 35 minutes. So, it can be faster than waiting for a shuttle from an "airport" hotel. Rome will have more to see, do, and eat that either an airport hotel or a place in a small town near the airport, although some do report staying in these towns and having a good experience.

I just returned this week and my husband and I stayed at the Rome Marriott Park Hotel. It was a reasonable 122 Euros and they have a shuttle bus into the city center for 7 euros. Also, it was about 25 euros for a taxi to the airport which the hotel arranged for us. Overall, I was pleased as we were in Rome overnight and wanted to go into the city for dinner. They also have a restaurant and breakfast and bar in the hotel itself.

So, your night in Rome is on one end of your tour or the other I assume? We just did this and choose to overnight in Rome coming from Catania. After a lot of deliberation we booked a room at the Hotel San Carlo which is near the Spanish steps. Lovely place. We arrived hungry and they suggested a place for lunch and another for a late dinner. Both were great. Spent the day at leisure as we had been in Rome prior to the Sicily tour. Folks on this board convinced me this would be a more enjoyable option than staying near the airport and I think it was.

Actually we are staying in Rome on both ends of our Sicily trip because it was easier and a little cheaper to book RT. Interesting thoughts about staying in Rome rather than near the airport. We get in mid-morning then we will fly to Palermo the next day. At the end, we fly from Catania to Rome...and we fly home the day after.

We found the Hotel Seccy in Fiumicino. a small, elegant boutique place. Quite reasonable prices & a really good breakfast. Some limited parking if you're driving. We spent 2 nights there, which allowed us a final day exploring & enjoying Fiumicino itself, a remarkably pleasant & unmolested small fishing port. Many restaurants line the canal where the trawlers are moored, many options from very basic to quite posh. The entire town seemed completely (& pleasantly) isolated from the huge int'l airport located just a few kms. away. I can't recall exactly, but the concierge ordered us a taxi to FCO that was was less than 5 min. & around ten euros. If we hadn't had luggage, I think we could have walked there in 20 min. or so.
