Hotel Recommendations in Rome

I'm going on the Mediterranean Cruise in February, 2024 and I wanted to visit Rome before the Cruise and visit Barcelona after the cruise.

So i have 3 days before cruise so please recommend nice but not expensive hotel in Rome and Barcelona.

Thank you very much

We stayed at Hotel Lancelot in Rome during our Rome RS tour. It's a moderately priced property, great staff, close to the colosseum, and I can recommend it. In Barcelona we stayed at BCN fashion house, also moderately priced and recommended.

I suggest booking.com. It is good for research but you can also book through them.

You might get more responses if you move this post to Q & A. You can then post under Italy for Rome and under Spain for Barcelona.

hey hey tliu421
what does nice and not expensive mean? what is the budget in euros and how many people? any mobility issues (climbing steps/stairs, do you need a lift) check cancellation policy, check in times is usually 3-4pm and check out 10-11am, do they have luggage storage if too early, where to stay, breakfast. we like to stay in the piazza navona area
do you have transportation to the port in rome (civitavecchia), it's a little more than an hour away? we ended getting a taxi for 140E (OUCH) when there was a protest in rome and many streets blocked. we didn't want to miss the sailing and some people did
europeforvisitors.com/ rome

We got back a week ago from a week in Rome after our RS Sicily tour and stayed at hotel Aberdeen. Quiet, great room, breakfast, helpful staff and close to a metro stop and the Termini train station.

Another vote for the Aberdeen. It was our tour hotel for the Best of Rome in 2010, and it’s been our “go to” hotel in Rome ever since. Very convenient location, great staff, lots of places to eat and shop nearby, but it’s tucked away on a quiet street.

Many on this forum, myself included, enjoy Hotel Smeraldo.

Another hotel in the Termini area is Hotel Sonya, across from Opera House and about three blocks from Termini. Hotel also used by various Steve's tour groups. If catching a cruise you probably will want to stay in the Termini area for train convenience to Civit.....

We have stayed at these two hotels:

  1. Napoleon Hotel Roma - Termini Area.

  2. Hotel Smeraldo - more in the center of Rome.

We would stay at either one again if the opportunity arises.

We stayed at the Pantheon Inn. One short block to the Piazza della Rotonda, and every night we sat in one of the cafes in the shadow of the Pantheon, eating and people watching. Reasonable rates, clean, spacious, breakfast included. Elevator, too!
