Hotel recommendation on Verona

We will be arriving by train at 6pm in October. Have 1 full day the next day to see sights, then train at 9:30 next morning to Turin. Any recommendations? Stay near train station? Stay in Old Town and count on transportation back to train station? Any good hotels anyone liked? Mid-priced…not budget

In 2015, we stayed at the Hotel Giulietta e Romeo. I checked the more recent reviews on Trip Advisor, and they are consistent with our experience. It's actually a pretty easy walk to the train station from the hotel, and vice versa. The staff gave us some excellent restaurant suggestions.

Stayed at Hotel Torcolo several years ago and would do so again. Good location near Piazza Bra and within walking distance of the Roman Coliseum, Roman theater, Ponte Scaligero, Basilica San Zeno, the Dante statue, Piazza Erbe, Della Scala tombs, and Castelvecchio. Avoid the fake "Juliet's Balcony" and her fake tomb -- just touristy come-ons. Enjoy the many restaurants between Piazza Bra and Piazza Erbe. Examine menus carefully because donkey and horse meat are frequently listed. The train station is only a short taxi ride from the hotel, but it is easily walkable.

We have stayed at Hotel Aurora at Piazza Erbe and Hotel Bologna just off of Piazza Bra and within site of the Roman Arena. I was planning to stay at Boutique Hotel Touring next month - talked to a newlywed couple during my last trip who liked that hotel.

Don’t stay near the train station. The pretty part of Verona for tourists begins at Piazza Bra.

I have some cute photos of people & the love notes at the Juliet’s Balcony area. But yes, it’s fake. Pienza was the filming location for pieces of Zeffirelli‘s Romeo & Juliet movie which I enjoyed very much, if you happen to be heading to Tuscany, also.

I second the recommendation for the hotel Romeo and Giulietta.

I agree that the fake "Juliet's Balcony" is pretty cheesy - didn't pay to see it, but I did take some pretty funny pictures of the souvenir stands near the entrance. Close by is a restaurant that I highly recommend. We skipped the dishes with horse and ass, but the lamb chops, non-equine pasta sauces, verdure, and desserts were fabulous.
