Hotel Near FCO (Rome) 1 Night + Questions

Arriving in FCO in September on a Saturday afternoon for one night. Want to stay near the airport to meet a friend coming in the next morning. Ideally <$200/night, including taxes, fees, etc. Preferably quiet. Prefer a substantial breakfast -- eggs and/or cured meat and fruit -- not just granola and pastries.

  1. Has anyone stayed overnight at the Hilton Airport Hotel at FCO (Rome)? Is it worth the price for the convenience? Decent breakfast? Good hotel restaurant for dinner (better than a burger)?
  2. Can you personally recommend a good Hotel or Bed & Breakfast near the airport?
  3. Does this hotel or b+b offer a full breakfast described above?
  4. Free airport hotel shuttle? If so, do they run regularly, or do you have to make a reservation?
  5. Quality/Very Good dinner restaurant recommendations near the airport?

Here are a couple hotels I'm considering. I would love to hear your experience with any of these, or let me know others I should consider near the hotel!

I've stayed at the Hilton that's connected to the airport because we had an early flight the next morning and had driven in from Umbria region. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet and the location can't be beat - it's a relatively short walk to the terminal with no need to hassle with shuttle - just follow the signs and walk directly to the terminal. The food in the restaurant was unmemorable - it's basic hotel food. The breakfast buffet was pretty large and substantial. The dinner the night before in the restaurant was ok, nothing special. Again the biggest thing going for it is location. See if you can get a better rate by using a discount such as AAA, AARP or through the Hilton website directly.

I stayed at the FCO Airport Hilton back in November - it's main selling point is that it's connected to to Terminal via a walkway - and it's a bit of a walk. We had to be at the airport to check in at 6:30, so it was a convenient, if somewhat pricey option.

Friends ate dinner at the restaurant and said it was OK - I chose to walk to the terminal and had dinner at the landside dining area of Terminal 3 - there is a branch of Eataly, but I chose a more casual option. We didn't have time for breakfast in the morning at the hotel.

Here are forum search results for "fco airport hilton" - you can read the opinions of others. Note that I found the hotel to be in excellent condition and quite clean:

I can't speak to your two choices, other than to suggest you look carefully at each location - the B & B appears to be in a bit of a no-man's land, and the other one may require a walk to the level of dining that you're looking for,

Here are search results from the forum for "Fiumicino hotel" for the past year:

I stayed at Hotel Tiber in Fiumicino. Excellent hotel, with a nice restaurant, there is also a good selection of restaurants nearby. Seafood is a speciality as Fiumicino is home to the fishing fleet. The hotel has a free shuttle, takes about 10 mins. The rooms were reasonably priced. Breakfast is offered in the restaurant but I was leaving too early to partake of it but as I recall the airport has many good options.

Standard room is showing as US$178 with free cancellation and “Italian” breakfast on the hotel website.

Lesley's choice looks good. I stayed at the airport Hilton like others above, it was quite comfortable and of course very convenient. I don't think I had time for breakfast either, but I had dinner there. Much better than a burger, but I'm sure there are better restaurants in the nearby towns. Chances are that any "fine dining" in the actual airport is after security.

I too, stayed at the FCO Hilton connected to the airport in 2013 and more recently in 2016. Both stays were clean and comfortable, although as others have said, the food at the restaurant was nothing memorable.
