Hotel in Trieste or near the airport?

I will be flying out of Trieste airport in October and I'd like to spend the night either in the city itself or perhaps near the airport, preferably with public transportation.

I just bought Best of Italy, Venice, and Croatia and Slovenia, but there's not a single mention of Trieste in any of them.

You should definitely stay in the city itself. Trieste is too special to miss it. Some years ago I stayed in the friendly and adequate Hotel de la Posta, some 10 mins walk from the railway station. It's the same distance to the Canal Grande, which has an excellent collection of restaurants.

Hi Melissa,

You will definitely want to stay in Trieste, the airport is a good 30 km away from the city. To take the public transport use bus Line 51 from the terminal and it will drop you off very close to the center of Trieste next to the train station (Piazza Della Liberta) from there you can easily walk around the city. I live in Trieste so if you need any other info about the area I can help.
