I highly recommend Hotel Grones in Ortesei, in the Val Gardena region of the Dolomites. The staff are warm and friendly, the half board food is exceptional, there are lovely sitting areas inside and outside the hotel, there is a pool and three types of saunas for rainy days or after hike relaxation, the rooms are well done traditional alpine simplicity. We LOVED our stay here.
Ortesei is more touristy than San Cristina and Selva, the other two towns in Val Gardena. But for us it was worth it for this hotel. The local bus pass is free from the hotel and it is super easy to get between the three villages.
There are three lifts/gondolas right out of the town of Ortesei. Very convenient.
