We are planning a trip to Italy with a week or so in Varenna for Sept. 2016
I read that Hotel du Lac and the Royal Victoria Hotel are both listed in the Michelin Guide. Any advice or experience at either Hotel for a week's stay?

Hotel du lac is beautiful and small boutique type overlooking the lake. If i could afford it i would stay there for sure. The walk to ferry dock is an easy 7 - 10 min stroll.
You may also want to consider Hotel Villa Cipressi. We had an excellent stay with a beautiful view of the lake.

The hotel du lac was lovely. It is right on the lake and easy to walk to lakeside cafes and restaurants. Beautiful walk to ferry. Unfortunately we were there at end of April and not able to enjoy the outside veranda and deck.
Sbalogh,
You may want to consider, 'Albergo Milano'. You may choose to stay in the hotel or in one of it's annex apartments which give you more room to enjoy.
We stayed in the annex apartment, 'Casa Gialla' (Yellow House), which is a 2 bedroom apt. without a view, but some of the other apartments have a view of the lake.
The price of your stay includes a delicious breakfast served in the hotel's terrace.
Here is the hotel's website:http://www.varenna.net/index.html
We stayed at the Hotel Del Sole in Varenna. It's right on the piazza. We really enjoyed it. There is a restaurant downstairs. Could have been noisy but it wasn't. Very friendly. The Hotel Du Lac looked beautiful.
I second Albergo Milano! Loved our stay there.
What I liked most about the Royal Victoria included the variety on the breakfast buffet (OK, the prosecco), the view from the terrace, and the swimming pool (small, cool, but worked for me). There's a more formal, corporate, pay for services feel than in the cheap places I would choose if I were paying.
