Hotel Campiello vs. Hotel al Ponte Antico

We’re planning our first visit to Venice and are contemplating two hotels recommended by Rick in his guidebook – the Hotel Campiello just east of St. Marks and Hotel al Ponte Antico near the Rialto Bridge. The latter is quite a bit more expensive (€400 vs. €250 per night) than the former, which, looking at the websites and reviews appears to be more of a reflection on the good deal at Hotel Campiello rather than Ponte Antico being expensive. For those in the know, do you have recommendations on one over the other? Is the Rialto location superior to the near St. Mark’s location? Thank you.

Haven't stayed at the other one, but have stayed at Hotel Campiello 3 times. It's very handy to both P San Marco and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stops, but is on a quiet side street. Several decent restaurants close by, too.

We prefer being further away from St.Marks Square and the Rialto areas.
We stay in Cannaregio, where there are no crowds, on the quiet back canals, yet a ten minute walk to a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. Our favorite hotel is Hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente. We will be returning next year again.
Wherever you are , enjoy this unique city. Safe travels!
