We will be in Florence for the first part of Holy Week and then in Venice until Good Friday. What can we expect? closures? processions? Thanks. Irene
Unless you attend Catholic churches, that have elaborate rituals on Thursday and Friday, you are going to see very little. On Thursday evening every church will decorate a chapel with flowers and a consacrated host will be placed on the chapel altar; churches will be open till late night and the tradition is to visit several of them during the evening and pray in each one. Processions (via crucis) are on Friday night, but are mostly local.
We were in Florence for the first part of Holy Week last year and other than it just being jammed with people, there were no closures/processions, whatever.
