We are traveling to the region in late September and will be there for 5 days. There are so many hiking hotels that can be found online that it's overwhelming. We want to hike on our own, but also are open to some hikes with guides who are provided through the hotels. Any suggestions?

We were in the Dolomites about 5 years ago and we stayed in Castelruth on a farm and hiked on our own. What a magnificent region with fantastic hiking. We were there late September into early October, and some of the lifts to the top of mountains were already closed. We did not feel the need for guided hikes. Trails are well marked. Weather was perfect. I would go back in a heartbeat!
