Highly recommended -- Winklwiese Apartment-Hotel in South Tyrol

I stayed at Winklwiese Apartment-Hotel in Valdaora (Olang in German) for 3 nights. I picked this location because I drove from Austria to South Tyrol and this cute town is along the way. Before I arrived, I didn't know much about Valdaora; I just saw it in Google Maps. It's close to Brunico (a major town) and somewhat close to Tre Cime national park. In choosing a place to stay, I considered San Candido and Toblach, which were almost all fully booked (at lease the affordable options were). So, I took a gamble and picked Valdaora. It's a tiny, walkable town with a great butcher (Meatery) and some little shops.

The establishment--this is a newly renovated apartment-style hotel. It's spotless, and the decor is modern with South Tirolean elements (clay stove and breakfast nook). My studio was super spacious with 1.5 baths and could easily accommodate four people. The kitchen was extremely well equipped--I could have cooked a feast there. Wifi connection was smooth and fast. The lady at the reception was a sweetheart. There's a washer and a dryer in the basement. My balcony offered a great view of the kid's playground with the mountains int he backdrop. This kid's playground is the best I've seen at any hotels or apartments worldwide. The rates were very reasonable for the area, which isn't cheap. I give this place 11 out of 10!

Note that this small hotel group owns four properties and be sure to choose the correct one. I booked directly from this website and got a slightly lower rate than, say, at booking.com.
