Has anyone stayed at Palazzo Olivia in Rome

I can't find any recent reviews on RS Forum or books. Some bad reviews regarding noise, and I read a review on another site that said it had a renovation in 2012.

Any suggestions for a hotel in Rome close to Campo area, for about $150 Euro/night. It's our first trip to Europe.

Go a little closer to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Use Booking.com, enter your location and price point.

Have a little look at Casa Coronari, a few steps from Piazzo Navona.

We stayed at Palazzo Olivia about two years ago and liked it very much. Rented their 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment for two couples. Streetside bedroom was a little noisy, but courtyard side bedroom was quiet. I remember the beds were very good and the bathroom was modern. There was a small restaurant across the courtyard where they included a nice breakfast daily. Location is great; in between the Piazza Navona and the Campo di Fiori. The owners were on site only from late afternoon until mid evening, but they were very helpful when they were there. We've visited Rome often so this was not a problem.

I've also stayed at the Portoghesi which is nearer the Pantheon end of Piazza Navona. This is more of a traditional hotel. I remember the beds being a little hard, but otherwise I would recommend it.

I know a great one bedroom apartment right on the Campo, but be aware it's party central at night. Not the best idea if noise is a big concern. Also, on a first time visit, you might need a little more on site help.

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for your reply. Which hotel would be more available in terms of hands on help at the desk?

The Portoghesi. I think you’re choosing the right area. I don’t especially like the area around Termini even though it’s very popular on this forum. I think you’ll enjoy the Navona/pantheon/Campo di Fiori area much more. A little more expensive but feels better for wandering at night.

I got confused because there's another hotel called Hotel Fontanella Borghese. In fact, when I put it in google maps, it shows up as Hotel Borghese? But on other sites, there are too different hotels...i think?

In the meantime, I see another hotel called Hotel Navona. It's closer to Navona and Campo area. I really can't decide at all, I see there's only 10 minute walk between Hotel Borghese and Navona, so I can't see which neighbourhood is best for walking, cafe's, restaurants. We want to be near the market for morning shopping, and...don't want to be in a noisy place at night though. I know you mentioned an apartment you stayed in, what was the name of it? Airbnnb?

It is confusing to find a hotel in a city like Rome with many choices when you don't know much about the area. Takes patience. Look at the ones that have been suggested on this thread. I would often start by going to Italy Reviews or Travel Forum/Italy on this site. Put "Rome hotel" in the search bar and make a list of places people have liked in the last 2 or 3 years. Then start working through your list. Cross check on TripAdvisor and read recent reviews to try to get a better feel for the places.

I prefer the triangle within the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Campo di Fiori. I don't like the Termini area, but many people like it just fine. Look at a map and see where your hotel is in relation to these places. When you're ready to book, book directly with the hotel on their website so they don't have to pay a fee to a third party. They may throw in some perk, and I think you have more leverage if something goes astray.

I don't know when you're traveling, but if it's in summer, you really want some AC. Your $150/night may be a little low. I'm always willing to pay a little more to get in the area I really want. Don't obsess too much about finding the perfect place. There are probably many that will be just fine, and there's so much to do in Rome, you'll probably only sleep there anyway.

The apartment I've liked on Campo di Fiori is beautiful, but you won't be happy with the night time noise around there. Trust me.

When you find a place you like, you can post again and see if there are more opinions out there. We all have different standards, so it's often a best guess. Hope you love Rome. I spent the summer I turned 20 there, and it changed my life!
