My husband and I stayed at the RS recommended Hotel Alloggi Barbaria ($$) and found it to be excellent. Clean and comfortable, small but roomy enough when you are planning to be outside and exploring all day. Friendly staff but don't expect frills at breakfast. Very convenient, two minute walk to Vaporetto and Alilaguna stop (Ospedale) and an easy 10-15 minute walk to any of the major tourist sights, but having a smart phone with Google maps is very helpful, especially for first-timers in Venice, like us. Good restaurants within a few minutes' walk. If you are looking for a quiet, inexpensive, comfortable, lodging in a real, but convenient, Venice neighborhood, check out Alloggi Barbaria.
Edit your post to add Venice at the beginning so traders know where you are writing about. My first clue was when you mentioned vapored to.

Always entertaining to see what the auto-edit function does.
