Hi There! I am in Rome now.
Gelato - San Crispino, just north of Pantheon, is a great choice. Limited selection of flavors, but some unique flavors and all are excellent.
Giolotti - offers many flavors, but this place is a tourist "mad house." You pay at counter first, get in a long line, then get your gelato. Coperto/extra charge for sitting with a cup or cone. We walked out of this place due to the atmosphere and enjoyed San Crispino gelato instead.
Spanish Steps is a bust. Don't waste your time. This site is under major renovation. You can't even see the steps.
Having a great time. Ciao!
I agree. San Crispino Gelato in Piazza Maddalena, just north of the Pantheon, is the best and the Spanish Steps are not worth it even when they are uncovered. If i was in the area I would walk by, but not worth the trek to get there, IMHO.
I agree with both of your comments. Loved that gelato as we would take our stroll each evening!
You can't even see the steps That was my impression when I visited in February a few years ago - couldn't see them for all the people on them!!
I love San Crispino ever since a friend told me to stop in a few years back. There is also another one a few blocks from the Trevi fountain off the main tourist walking route
