Recently, following an amazing nine-day Rick Steves "Heart of Italy" tour, we chose Frances Lodge Relais just outside Siena as our base to enjoy several more days in Tuscany.
Arriving at Frances Lodge to be greeted warmly by Franca and Franco is the first of many wonderful experiences here. We were given a tour of the beautiful facilities before being shown our room. Since we were celebrating a birthday on arrival day, we chose to have the picnic dinner at the lodge which we enjoyed in the gazebo overlooking the skyline of Siena on the horizon. What a wonderful experience and delicious dinner! The next morning (and every other morning) we enjoyed ala carte breakfast made to order which included many ingredients “fata in casa” (homemade), for example lemon syrup made from lemons grown here! On the morning of our self-driving tour of the Clay Hills and Tuscan Hill towns, Franco provided his personalized map and expert directions. Our stay at Frances Lodge was one of the highlights of our two weeks in Italy and we are happy to give our highest recommendation. When we return to Siena we plan to stay here!
